to bring the score up. Please don't get me wrong, if I'm in the 6+ range I'm very happy but I would like to see some 6.5+ and maybe a 7 or two.
I entered this shot in the "Faceless Portrait" challenge. It's my dad (71 years old) who loves to whittle with his knife. I was at my parents house, camera in hand, when the idea of covering the face with an old leather hat came to mind. I asked my dad would he pose and he did. I took two shots, one from the front and one from the side. He was in sitting on an old wood chair in front of an old plank fence. The only lighting was late evening sunlight. Direction was from the top right toward the middle left of the picture. I guess a reflector would of been good to fill in some contrast on the left side????
Any pointers on making this shot better. My mother wants one to frame.
Thanks,
SDW

Highlights are fine. I think the shadows (blacks) could be deepened a little. As for the score, you probably took some minor dings from a partial face showing. JMO. I really enjoyed this image and it's certainly worthy of framing! |
