awhile back I almost wanted to operate on my Fuji to make it IR-sensitive.
I'm going to buy a cheap used camera for IR photography instead.
I have a small question - is it OK to remove the IR filter and then re-assemble the camera back? Some DIY websites stated that they replaced the glass with a clear one, but what if I dont put something back in? I imagined it would be OK.... RIGHT??? |

The clear filter would protect the sensor. Since you are not planning on taking apart a dSLR where the sensor would be exposed during lens changes you should be ok.

Shouldn't. Removing the filter alouds for handheld exposures.

I mean the focal length between the sensor and the lens. I'm planning DIY so I need all the tips I can get! :) |

| I looked into this about a year or so back and I could have sworn at least one site I found stated you needed to replace the filter with a clear or IR filter of the same thickness to maintain the optical formula of the lens. I haven't used them, but //www.lifepixel.com/ does conversions and also has a DIY guide for some Nikon and Canon models online. They may be able to answer your questions. |
