Hey all,
I recently read about a new web site called PhishTank. This site is attempting to build an open database of phishing sites, which can be accessed free for both personal and commercial use. The idea is to create a comprehensive list of known phishing sites that can be used in anti-phishing toolbars and software.
Register on the site for free, and they offer you the ability to submit phishing emails you receive (by forwarding the emails to them or by pasting them into a web form), and to vote on whether sites submitted by others are truly phishes. Voting is reputation-based, meaning that the more accurately you vote, and the more you vote, the more weight your votes carry in deciding whether a site is truly a phish.
The site is in the very early stages, but I believe the concept has tons of potential. I'm posting this here to help spread the word and get the site to the "critical mass" necessary to make this concept succeed. In the long run, I think this kind of open sharing of information is essential to beating phishing.
Please do check out the site. I'd love to hear what you think.
