Why is it so important that photos are shot within the dates of the challenge? I joined DPChallenge but have yet to be able to participate. Some of us live in places where there aren't as many natural photo opportunities as others. I may have the perfect photo I took this summer for the theme, but I can't use it. I am not going to fly back to reshoot it.

In one case I had shot a good photo for the challenge during a trip just the week before.

I have a very busy job, and I can't just run out and take pictures to meet the weekly challenge. I take photos when I have the opportunities and interesting subjects to shoot.

I wonder if people are really following the shooting dates? You can't easily check that in the photos posted.

I only took up photography recently, and don't have years of photography to draw on for no-date-limit challenges. The primary reason most of us are here is to learn how to get better... there are no prizes here other than an imaginary ribbon... so limiting the photo to the dates of the challenge pushes us to try new things rather than relying on what we've already done. If you're imaginative, there's usually SOME way of setting up a shot at short notice in the house, using normal lamps and props around the house that will fit a challenge. These challenges teach you to seek out good photos imaginatively, rather than just wait for nice views to happen.

Wow, amazing pics in your portfolio, no wonder you don't want date restrictions... I think you'll have to lower your standards to meet the challenges!

There are plenty of other photo contest sites that don't have date restrictions.

I personally like the date restriction aspect of DPC. It makes me go out and take pictures instead of browsing through ones already on my hard drive.
