OK, I'm pretty sure my CRT monitor is about to die. The colour cast keeps going yellow and flickering and I don't have confidence in the colour calibration anymore.

I was looking at this CRT for a replacement:
Thinkvision 21"

Or Perhaps this one:
Samsung 19"

So my question is, am I better off buying a good CRT or spending the extra for a lower-priced LCD?

I've heard that LCD's are up to par now, but I get the feeling I'm looking at a $1500 monitor to get something comparable to a CRT. Or am I wrong, is a $300 CRT just as good as a $300 LCD?

Thanks.

I don't know exactly what you are needing but this viewsonic
is what I have and am extremely happy with it. It is really nice. At least I like it ;-)

I'd never go back. The size of the monitor is awesome...super thin.

Wait a while longer if your patience dares.

More competition is entering the market place within the year, meaning more competitive pricing on crt, lcd, and plasma.

If you can wait, a new tech called sad,(no not the emotion) is comming to market. Basically take a crt, miniturize it to a thumbnail size, put thousands of them together to make one screen.

SAD is supposed to rival plasma. Look at Sony for more details to come.

If your current one is unusable due to the colour cast then you have to do something - and technology always changes.

I prefer the looks on the CRT for images but prefer the size e.t.c. of the LCD's. The LCD's tend to be brighter and I find them better for text and such but still prefer a CRT for images - Having said that, I only use the LCD now days because it's good and the form factor wins by a long way.

View Sonic VP930 b

I've been using this one about 6 months and love it. It won't match a CRT but it's close enuf for me. I just happens to cost 300 bucks at the URL I gave. It has both DVI and regular inputs. I use mine DVI so can't advise if it looks diff on VGA. It has a contrast ratio of 1000 to 1. Very good for photos. It has one caveat: In a dark room, if the image is almost completely full frame and black a very diffuse X appears across the screen from corner to corner. I doesn't bother me at all. But.... it's like the Sony wire mask thing on their CRTs a few years ago. You'll either not notice it, or it won't bother you...... or, you'll hate it. Be sure to read the reviews. I never see it on mine unless the screen is completely black. So, no problem, my screen is only black when in screen save!
Great monitor. I'm gonna use mine til the new tech comes out then use it for the pallets/menu screen in a dual head setup. I'm using a NEC 15" for that right now.
