Hi Everyone,
Is it worth it to upgrade to Photoshop CS2 from Photoshop 7 ?

Rumor is that CS3 will be out in Q2 of 2007, or maybe as early as Q1.
I'm holding out to upgrade until the new version arrives. I currently use PS 6.
Just something to keep in mind.

Yes, I upgraded from 7 to CS2. You get Bridge for a start!!! Also, the Healing tool has more to it. I can't remember all the things that were better.
As far as CS3 goes, if you have brought a genuine copy, Adobe do a cheap upgrade rather than selling you a new program. |

The lens distortion correction filter alone is worth the upgrade.

Don't mean to hijack, but can you upgrade from ANY version of PS? I don't have PS and am looking for the least expensive way to go about getting the most recent version.
Added: Never mind. I went adobe's website. Any version EXCEPT Adobe Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Album, Photoshop Limited Edition, or PhotoDeluxe licensed users.

| jimika - so upgrading from 7 to CS2 - how did your computer system react. I heard that CS2 is a resource hog and is much slower than, say, CS in operation. Can anyone comment on performance hits caused by CS2? |

Actually, the Adobe website says:
US $169.00 - UPG from Photoshop CS, Photoshop 7 or earlier
US $499.00 - UPG from Photoshop Limited Edition, PhotoDeluxe or Photoshop Elements

CS2 is, without a doubt, a resource hog. It doesn't seem to manage memory as well as it could. 1GB of ram should be considered a minimum for adequate performance.
That said, I would not go back to 7.0; one small change that makes a huge difference is the live histogram. In 7.0, you had to make adjustments, then look at the histogram, repeating the process until the deired result was achieved. A big time waster. |

There are some places offering pre-orders for Nov 2006 delivery of new PH CS x
Check it out, it may be worth waiting a few weeks or so |

It does eat alot of your RAM, i coupe with half a gig of ram by shutting everything but Bridge and Photoshop when sorting images out. I DO have to close Bridge when i'm doing major editing because the mouse cursor slows down, but everything works fine when editing as long as just Photoshop is open. |
