I just found out:
1) that Pentax saves a JPG as part of the RAW file (it is embedded)
2) that It is possible to extract the JPG through the Pentax supplied software
3) that there exists some free script/tool/utility that can extract these JPGs in a batch mode.
My question is, does anyone know where I can get said utility?
Thanks!
p.s. This is for a Pentax K100D.

I found it. The utility is called PEF2JPEG.
This utility extracts the embedded JPG out of the RAW file on Pentax DSLRs. As part of the RAW file, a 1MB JPG is also created, but it is embedded. When using the supplied PhotoBrowser software, you can right-click on the image and extract the JPG, but this utility will allow "batch" mode (multiple extracts at once).
So now you can produce JPGs for previewing what you have shot in RAW, quickly deleting the ones you don't want to save.
The utility works on Pentax *istD / DS / DL / DS2 / DL2 / and K100D. The author of this software says that it has been rumored to work with the K110D, but he has not confirmed it.
