Why? Do planes not crash in Australia?

maybe she's referring to the reaction.

First I heard of this (I live in a vacuum) - briefly scanned the thread and let me get this straight so I can post to my own blog where I distribute factual reports to the mainstream media:
Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle, suspected of being a terrorist and angry about something George Bush said, was flying a helicopter with fighter jets in pursuit. He managed to convert the helicopter into a small, fixed-wing aircraft and crashed it into a building in New York.

OK, I think I got it - going to post this now...

Sorry for making light (it's just what I do) - my sympathies to all affected. Tragedy sucks, in case anyone needs reminding.

The fact that you made this post makes my eyes roll even more. The way I read it you are saying that Americans are way too overdramatic and jump to many more conclusions than anyone else in the world, correct?

Ken's post was very funny and spot on as to reports by the mainstram media, not solely the reaction of Americans. However, for someone to assume that only Americans would react this way 5 years after a huge terrorist attack involving planes, buildings and the same city is pretty damned offensive and assinine.

Yikes. I write parts of the software that run in the avionics on that airplane (Cirrus SR-20) and fly one myself. They are awesome planes. It makes me wonder what went wrong for them to hit a building... Its bad to draw conclusions so I'll just have to wait for the FAA report on it.

As you say, it may be better to wait for the report, but I tend to think pilot error is more likely than an aircraft issue. The report said he was flying VFR, I'm surprised he was able to get that close to the city - I was under the impression that it was still restricted airspace. I guess they lifted that?

I am assuming you said that about the plane crashing not the reaction to everyone here, eitherway probably not a smart thing to say. And no it isnt only in America. We arent safe, dont think that for a minute.

The amazing thing is that I learned of this crash from this thread on DPC. I then headed out to regular news sites and they were behind this thread in filling in the details!
