I have to self DQ my entry for High Contrast
As I was sending the verification file I realised I had used a Hue/Saturation layer in hue blend mode to convert to B/W.
This is of course illegal in basic editing.

I apologise to the DPC community for this.

it's easy to get confused with editing for all the different rules. don't beat yourself up about it.

it's a great photo!

Wonderful b/w conversion. Sorry to hear about the DQ.

Too bad, Falc. It is a great image nonetheless. Probly woulda been DQ'd for the literal artwork rule anyway. ;-)

Hahaha - you spotted the monitor in the background too eh? ;-)

Per the rules, you cannot request a Self DQ if any rules have been broken.
Please submit your original and editing steps so we can go through the normal process.
P.S. It's an awesome shot...

would you have requested for a self-DQ should verification was not requested?

I only realised as I was writing up the processing steps. As soon as I realised I knew the image needed to be DQ. I guess if I had ended up in say 10th spot then I wouldn't have written up the steps and therefore not realised the error.

Another excellent reason to always include at least an outline of d-darkroom work when submitting. :p

Excellent shot!

Here is a version converted to B/W using the legal Channel Mixer method

Valuable lesson learnt, and my second DQ from 4th place for very similar mistakes ;-)

Fairly substantial difference in the water foam - not nearly as white in the updated version you've posted. Still a nice shot...

Ah, bugger. This was one of my favs in the challenge as well. Great shot anyhow.

Don't you hate when that happens? My sympathies...

And to whomever it was that asked "Would you have reported it if they didn't ask for validation?" I'd just gently point out that Falc could have just not mentioned the "illegal" step in PP and I doubt very much anyone would be the wiser. So here's a round of restrained applause for Falc, who stepped up and took his lumps without a whimper.

I'm sure if he plays with it more he could easily achieve the same results of his entry using channel mixer, selective color and or curves that would have been legal.

Very true. The results he got could have been acheived legally so he could have probably gotten the shot validated if he covered up the mistake but he didn't.

if i won by doing something wrong i could never enjoy the victory because i'd know in the back of my mind i 'cheated'.
