Hi,

Please I need your help, I am considering very seriously getting into the DSLR world and after my BDAY I finally have anough $$ to even consider it.

I am thinking in the 400D but I don't want you to get into the eternal debate about the right camera to start with. My question is more about the right type of storage to get with this camera.

The questions are: What kind of CF card is better for this camera? I don't plan to shoot RAW all the time but sometimes I will use RAW+JPG should I buy a 1,2,+ GBs card?
Where is a better place to buy these in the UK, which brands I can find here?

Thank you very much for the advice

More storage good. You don't ever want to be in the position of running out of space. Go with the 2 Gig. Especially if you are thinking of the 400, even if shooting jpeg, the size of the files are huge.

If you intend to shoot RAW + high quality jpeg on the 400D then I'd recommend 2Gig cards, otherwise maybe 1Gig.

I've got the Sandisk Extreme III 1G for the 20D, and we've got a couple of crucial technology 1GB cards that go nicely in both the 20D and the 400D, and were also reasonably priced ( from www.crucial.co.uk ). Not had a speed issue with either card.

Here is a site for real cheap compact flash, use the search to bring them up and you can have 1 or 2 gigs of a decent brand for very little ££.

I think its really more of a personal preference and how much you shoot. I have a 5D and I've made due very will with 2x 1GB cards (shooting RAW only). I suppose if you're using RAW + a really high quality JPEG you might want more, but I'd still suggest more cards of smaller numbers (1gb) since it makes it less painful if a card corrups or gets lost or something. You'd lose a much smaller portion of cards. I'd say sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III. I wouldn't buy a really cheap CF card as its just setting it up for corruption/failure later on.

Thank you all for the advice. I will check the webpage Jim.

If I can make another question: what is the size of the files I will be getting with a 400D? :P

Thanks again

2 Gigs are best if you shoot raw. I use 4 gig cards on the 5D as I hate to see that message 'CF Card Full' when I'm in the middle of an action sequence.

With my 2Gig card, I get 235 raw shots on a 8.2 mpix camera on 100 iso, and 180 raw on 3200 iso. I'm guessing you'll get about 180-190 shots on 100 iso on the 400d seeing as it's 10 mpix.

Wanna buy my tried and tested d70? It's got ribbon-winning capabilities. I have a few lenses too if you're interested.
