Adobe Camera Raw 3.6 Beta has support for new cameras including the Canon 400D, Nikon D80, and Pentax K100D.
Does anyone use the beta version of the raw updates or do you wait until the tested version is out? |

Is this the same as the RAW application that opens out of Adobe Bridge or when you open a RAW in CS2? How can I tell which version I have?

I upgraded to the beta version out of necessity as I have a Nikon D80. Not clear to me that it is easy to figure which version you have in the directory as they are all called CameraRaw.8bi with no versioning in the file name. And, yes, this is the version that opens in Bridge and CS2 :-)
So far it has remained stable but there are bits and pieces missing. If you are a D80 owner you have to disable the worse than useless Nikon NEF plug-in that only seemed to offer white balance control in PS.
Hope this helps a little. |

Yes it is. In adobe CS2 you can goto top menu bar and select "help -> system info" and in the list look for "camer raw" and it will show you the version. |

hmmm, do I need to install it somehow? or do I just stick the .8bi file into a folder?

Proceed as follows:
- Close photoshop
- Do a search for the existing "camera raw.8bi file
- Right-click it and choose "open containing folder"
- Rename the existing file by adding a ".old" extension (and click Yes when asked if you really want to change the extension)
- Now drag the new file over to that folder
- Restart photoshop. Done |

Other than support for more cameras does this version add/fix anything?

Ya know, Fritz, giving a straight forward and correct answer just isn't any fun. You have to learn to speculate on what the correct solutions MIGHT be and endlessley argue about their respective pros and cons.
But Nooooooo... you have to give the correct answer right off the bat. You will never learn to start frivolous arguements doing stuff like that.

I tried to find a bit on the adobe site, but couldn't locate it. What does it mean for their Camera RAW to "support" a camera? I don't see any profile boxes or anything like that. Am I missing something?

| If Camera RAW doesn't support your camera, it simply wont open your file. I just bought a D80 and Photoshop wouldn't even try to open the file until I installed Camera RAW 3.6 Beta. Something to do with how every camera saves the file differently and saves different information in the file. |

I will second that - and it took me a little while to appreciate that is what is was doing as I thought I had broken Camera Raw in some way! |

| I downloaded it also. It seems to be working well with the XTi |
