I am not shur about the response time, But the contrast ratio is poor, should look at something with a 700:1, check out this site, zipzoomfly.com

Conversion amount is $264.15

But price isnt a major (although limiting) factor.

It's more the specs in that range.

Would it be better than my CRT monitor at home?

you could get a duel monitor card and run both.

The second monitor has nice specs, but I'd try to see it in action first at a local store.

Response times for photo editing aren't that much of a big deal. Although, if you can get the lowest possible response time as you can, it would be the best. LCD monitors can go down to 2ms response times I believe. As far as it being better or worse than your CRT, it depends on what CRT you have... The CRT is always going to be a heck of a lot faster than the LCD, cause lets face it, it's much much easier to move a beam of light than a liquid. Hope this helps.

LG 1720PF/L1917S = 6bit per pixel TN panel - but using dithering will display 16.2 million and not 16.7 million colours

if your doing photography or other colour critical stuff then steer clear..
