I have two questions actually.

What are some recommended spotlights? Something besides what I can pick up at the hardware store or are those adequate? I'm looking for something I can use to light the background behind medium size objects, faces, etc as well as using them as accent lights on the object itself.

Also, if this is anyone's forte, how do you rig objects up for shooting without having them sitting on the ground? For example, I periodically frustrate myself by trying to shoot my violin. Setting it on the ground I get issues with wrinkled cloth and such. Hanging it from fishing line gives me an ulcer for fear of it smashing into the ground, plus it tends to spin around, etc. Is there anything specifically made for product type shots to isolate the object in front of a background in such a way that the device is more or less hidden or easily cloned out?
