I recently visited Red Rock Canyon in Nevada and decided to try my hand at a panoramic (stitched together). When I shot it I releveled the camera after each pan, I was wondering if people had better success with their panoramas releveling or just panning without concern for the level.

Thanks

Nice shots of rocks. I guess I'm not following. Did you relevel the camera after each shot? When I shoot panos I level the tripod head at the very beginning and as I rotate the head, the camera stays level because it is only rotating in the X axis and is not changing anything in the Y axis. Did that make any sense?

Anyway, the panos you shot look great. Looks like whatever you did it worked perfect.

Not exactly sure what you are getting at, but I can tell you what I do.

I make sure the camera is level on the tripod before starting then, as quickly as possible, take one image after the other rotating the camera on the tripod between frames and maintaining about a 30% overlap. Sometimes I will do multiple rows of images, but in those cases I just rotate the camera vertically once between rows. But I still do not relevel the tripod.

Here is a gallery of panoramas I've taken and tests with various stitching software:

Level the camera before taking the shots. I point my cam to where I want to start and just make a mental note of things I see on the screen. Then I pan the cam to where I want to end the panorama and see if things are roughly level. I think there are bubble-levels available which you can attach to the hotshoe to make it really level.

You may want to ask jmsetzler about how he does it, he has some fantastic pano's.

Here is one example
