If I can manage a 6+ score for this one, it'll make six 6+ scores in a row. For me that's kind of a cool milestone (even if most of them have only just scraped above 6). So far things are looking promising:

I am guessing slightly above middle of the pack, call me crazy... |
Ah, Hah! See... here is proof positive for my revolutionary theory on comments... This theory has Nobel Prize written all over it and will change life as we know it forever.
Qiki has about 4% comments with a score of 6.6 yet jdannels has 5% comments and a score of 5.8!!!
Ohhhhh... wait... wait... hold on... that is the OPPOSITE of my theory. Dang. Never mind!!
I sure hope the Nobel Laureate Committee doesn't hear about this.
Btw... Qiki, great run of 6s.

101 votes, no comments, still above 6 - Steve, I think your theory doesn't work at all.

Funny thing about this shot is that my wife usually gives me a polite 'thats nice' to pretty much any shot I show her, including some that have done very well on dpc. This one, one that has barely gotten any comments and sports about as mediocre a score as can be had, she walks in the room when I had it open and goes 'WOW, who took that one??'
Go figure.

::Wistfully wonders what it must be like to have a score where the right side of the dot becomes more important than the left::
Well, I'm exhausted from the purple/unrelated/HCII/abstract macro challenges. Fortunately, the sweater for my rubber ducky is now finished! But, the question is...will he be my SEABISCUIT?!!!!!!! |

Stats: You have rated 392 of 393 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 69 images (18%) in this challenge.
Well, I'm finished voting for this challenge. I didn't find any 10's, but have a few 9's and gave many more 5's (DNMC on my scale), then I would have like to give. I guess I need to read up on HC because I didn't see alot of it? Hmmm. |

Given the total number of entries, we are probably about at the halfway mark in total votes for this challenge. My score continues to dip up and down slightly but with a slow general decline from its peak at 7.04 at the 60 vote mark. I suspect that type of fluctuation is true of most everyone else at this point.
A secret about comment percentage during voting
The percentage of voters that comment on your image during voting is a strong indicator where you stand compared to others. People sometimes give you their vote tally and number of comments but not their actual score. But you can bet if their percentage is higher than yours then their score is higher than yours as well. So even without revealing their score, you can still know if you are in the running for a ribbon.
I'm at just under 8% comments in total votes. At my peak score I was right at 10% comments. You are generally in ribbon territory during voting if your comment percentage is 12% or above, probably a little less than that for a challenge with as larger a number of entries as this one.
Based on that percentage I'd say I'm in pretty good shape for top 10 but probably outside the ribbons. That is supported by my current score.
Btw, it is very flattering being marked for 2 favorites.
Does anyone care to verify or deny this analysis based upon your current score and comment count compared to mine?

I guess I still have a lot to learn about DPC. Still only one comment and pretty low scores. But, I was really happy with the picture, so I guess I shouldn't worry too much about the score. Would like some more comments though so I can continue to improve my photos.

Geeze... I sure hope so. You got a lot more ribbons than me. :)
It is looking good for my side so far; however, things can change fast as you well know. I picked up about .1 in about 5 votes, but it can go back down the toilet just as quick. :)
You get up around 10% comments like you have that is a good sign for a high placing. There is plenty of time for you to get a spurt.
OK, so there is only one thing for me to do. I have to pull out all the stops. This is no holds barred time!
Please... Please... beg... beg... beg... vote my image higher than Falc's!

Despite my sense of fun in the forums, I do take my voting and my comments very seriously and responsibly. If you found my comment helpful in anyway, then I am honored to have done my job correctly.
Having said that, I am now going to go back through the entire field of photos and give everyone (except you, Steve, Dear) TWO EXTRA points, just to punish him for his shameless and wicked ways....LOL!!
Oh Look, my score went up a tiny bit, but not a good poker hand...;-(

I've noticed a similar trend, but my numbers seem to be a bit different. I can usually guess at a top 20 when I have 10% comments. There have been a few challenges where I managed a 20% ratio, and it was a top 10.
When it will deviate is if the picture tickles a nerve somehow. In one of the challenges, apparently the shot is humorous to several, so I have a 13% ratio, but a score that is just barely above "average," that I don't anticipate having a top 10 or even top 20 finish. |

Usually if I get up to 2 to 1 views to votes I expect to place really high. BUt this one has lots of views, but once they see they don't like it, hahaha
probably going to be my second lowest score ever, my new if I'm lucky :)
