I'm a registered user, but not a member. I'm thinking about forking over the $25 so I can participate in the member challenges, but I have a few questions about the "Advanced Editing" rules.

"You may not post-process your entry from or to include elements of multiple images, multiple exposures..."

Let's say I take a RAW picture of a sunset. I develop this RAW picture in photoshop with 2 different exposures. One for the highlights (clouds) and one for the shadows (forground). I then merge these 2 images in photoshop. Is this multiple exposures and will be DQ?

I've tried searching the forums for answers, but the search function doesn't give good results. If this has been asked/answered before, please point me in the right direction (I'm lost).

This is legal in advanced. As long as you start with a single RAW file, it is only 1 exposure. I'll see if I can pull up some related threads...

One of several threads here.

Also, my wife did some very similar processing on the below image and it was validated during voting.

It is definitely legal as you've described it. At this point we're not allowed to combine several *separate* exposures, however, so true HDR imaging is not allowed in Challenge entries. But any variations you can make off a single exposure, layered and blended however works for you, is definitely OK in advanced editing.

Thanks. Maybe soon, you'll see me in color as a member. Let's see what the member challenges are this time around.
