And FWIW, I am still hovering a tad above 6.4 in Trains, a PB, and 22 comments....
A top ten sure would be a lovely birthday prezzie! And a great pre WPL3 warm up :)

Happy Birthday, Rae-Ann!
I'll be checking out the train results to see how you did. To make the top ten would be a great b-day present. That would make 3 of us in the last week!
BTW, I finally put an entry in tonight in the Landscape in Portrait challenge. I like the way it turned out, but it might be too much post-processing for some DPC voters. |

Rae-Ann:
I'm really excited for WPL to start! I haven't submitted anything for the last few challenges (and nothing for wind either) so I'm glad to have some new motivation.
Congrats to everyone on the great scores and the many new PB's! I'd really like a new PB myself...

I think someone is worried that we'll clown the dslr's.
How am i going to do a long exposure? My p&s doesn't allow setting shutter speeds, iso, aperature or hardly anything.

Man, that's a bummer of a challenge for the Minolta DiMAGE E323! You don't have much control at all on that guy. So, I was looking at some info on your camera and I have some tips on how to achieve a longer exposure (if I'm reading this stuff correctly...you'll probably still need to experiment).
First off, it looks like the longest shutter speed it will do is 2 seconds. Finding a subject that will be enhanced by something like a 2 sec exposure will be important (I have no ideas on that at the moment).
As for settings, select the Night View preset, disable the flash, and crank up the exposure compensation to +2. As far as I can tell, that's all you can do to increase exposure time.
That's all the info I have at the moment. Let me know if you have any questions.

I am in exactly the same boat...I can only get 2 seconds ( I think) and that is with using the "Night" setting....
A far as us making the dslrs scared, I had to laugh..I was thinking the same thing when I saw that challenge come up!
j/k of course!

dSLR butting in here (but not on a team, and fairly harmless overall)..
The objective as I read it is to use a "longer" setting - didn't say how long. I've been trying to think of ways that 2 seconds is good for this and remembered there was a "2 second" challenge - that may provide some ideas. |

Thanks Rae-Ann!
Congrats indeed to gg3rd. Another PB. I was hoping mine would end up being a PB as well, but a personal 2nd best works for me! How is the action on the current challenges for everyone? My free study is at a 5.8 at the moment (with a huge 25 votes). My Portrait shot, on the other hand....wait for it....3.9211! And I really like it, too. Ah, well. Gettin' it out of my system at least.
Oh yeah, Lorene's free study is at a 6.5556!

Thank you, guys. And it almost hit the 6 mark, but I'm content with its outcome.
The Bokeh was a tough challenge indeed and you did a very fine job on that rose, Nathan.
As per my Landscape in Portrait, it's in between: 4.8. Sometimes I wonder...

My stupid free study is at a stupid 5.1
Stupid last minute entry....
I think I am going for Neon signs...I live downtown, and finish work at around 9 pm...lots of signs to be had...
Who's entering what challenge for our first WPL week?
( Go Lorene and Lynnemarie!!!)

for once I'm glad I'm not in the team - my current Free Study is hovering at an all-time low of 4.6 OMFG! I'm depressed... :p |

crayon, thanks for checking up on us. Don't stay depressed, my scores have been up and down all day in landscape as portrait. You just don't ever really know how well an entry is actually going to do.
I have an idea for long exposure. My camera's shutter can be open for up to 15 sec exposure, and I have been experimenting a bit with that.
Not sure about neon signs as I live in a relatively small town (25,000), though it is a college town and there are a lot of bars around.
What is everyone else gonna do? |

thanks Lynn. I'm now hoping that my entry would at least close at a 5.x score. Tough to get there though, the way things looked at this time. So you guys doing Long Exposure eh? A little advise from a fellow P&S user - use the Nightshot mode if your camera have it, and use a tripod or something. |

wow you guys are hitting some high scores. We have a pretty good team here. congrats.
I'm not doing as i expected i would on the three entries i have going right now, and the worst thing is i used my dslr this time.
I have some ideas for the long exposure challenge and i need to get my little p&S out again to see if i can do it.

Don't get down, any new cam is gonna take getting used to..everytime I switch I suck for a while :)
And going from P&S to dslr must be quite overwhelming.
I envy you!!!! I am so trying to save :(
sidebar...anyone else notice how deliciously anonymous our friend crayon is??? Look at his stunning profile..no idea how old, or where, or nuthing... He has even gone to great length to name the locations of his pics very generally.
I have decided to think crayon is an international man of mystery...crayon bond...
