I know by holding an old 50mm 1.8 lens up to my camera gives me about 1:1 What if I had a reverse lens adapter and put my 105mm f2.8 lens on my cam?

Any idea what kind of mag and clairity I would get?

If I recall correctly, the magnification increases as the lens gets WIDER, not more telephoto when you reverse it.

Hence, reversing an 18mm gets much more magnified than a 100mm.

If you want more info, you might find some good links in the forums via a forum search on reverse lens technique or something. A year or so ago, I put up a couple of learning threads about it and discussed it rather heavily (making some mistakes along the way).

Others contributed loads of info with links in the thread.

If you want to see the effect, pick up your 18-200 zoom lens and look through it backwards. You will notice that as the lens' focal length increases, towards 200mm, the image gets smaller and farther away looking.

The principle is the same on the camera or reversed in front of another lens.
