Last weekend jbsmithana and I spent Sunday afternoon at the 25th annual Anacortes Washington Oyster Run. For those not in the know, here's the scoop:
Twenty-five years ago, a few guys, who happened to be motorcycle enthusiasts, got together for a ride to Anacortes to eat some oysters. Next year, they each invited some buddies and the group was larger. In the years that followed, buddies invited buddies and in a combinatorial explosion of motorcycle mania, their numbers grew to around 15,000-20,000 motorcycles this year. This is all the more interesting because Anacortes is a town of around 15,000-16,000 good folks. So on a single day in September the population doubles. It is conceivable that bikers and residents might mix like nitro and glycerin but fortunately everybody seems to get along. The residents are bemused by the bikers. And I can only suppose the bikers are bemused by the residents. Cops seem to keep a low profile since a higher profile is apparently unnecessary. At the end of the day, a good time was had by all!
As you can only imagine, this was great fun! jbsmithana is a great shooting companion. Here are a few photos. And there are more in the Oyster Run folder in my portfolio if you are interested.
Please, may I have your direct comments and suggestions. |
