Just wondering if any of the 24 of you that voted this 3 or less would care to share why

I didtn vote - but I left you a comment as to why I think some may have scored you low. Personally I do not think you should have gotten any votes of 3 and below

Didn't vote, and I doubt I'd give this a <3, but the major leading line (the black wall) does not lead to the subject (the lighthouse)... |

Firstly, I didn't vote on this challenge. I'd vote this shot as a 5 and maybe a six. The shot is crisp, focused, colors work well and the image is pleasing. I cannot say it is too exciting but it certainly does not deserve the crappy low votes it was given. |

All the strong lines seem to be leading out of the photo, not to the lighthouse. I didn't vote, but it probably would have been a 5 from me.

Guess leading lines works differently on my eyes or something. Thanks for the feedback. |

This is a pleasant image - overall, it is well-balanced, clean, with good levels and colors.
In a leading lines challenge, it falls weak in my opinion.
Leading lines do not actually have to lead to or from something, but can give a viewer the idea that it does. In your image, there really are no leading lines that take a strong focal point. The theme was leading lines, and that should have been the main focal point in regards to the challenge.
Don't knock yourself down pride-wise - it's a nice shot, just doesn't have a strong use of leading lines. |

I'm not knocked down, and I've managed to score lower heh. Apparently I just misunderstand or misinterpet the concept of leading lines. To me, the majority of lines in the image lead the eye to the lighthouse as I marked. The wall isn't a line leading anywhere, it's pretty much just a divider in the middle of the photo. But whatever, live and learn. |

I did see a lot of the lines you point out, but in your diagram you need to make the blue on on the wall 10 times bigger because our eye is so dominated by the contrast of the dark wall on the light sand and sky. |

I think you head the nail on the head. The fence divides the photo which breaks up / minimizes the leading lines in the photo. Had that fence not been there that hill would have acted as a much stronger leading line. Btw, I didn't vote on your image.

Hmm that is an interesting point, but how can it lead anywhere? It runs edge to edge on the photo and simply splits it in two....? Alright, it's food for thought. I'll be set for the next time this challenge appears.
edit: was to achoo
Thanks all for the insight!

Left this comment on the image with the arrows, but as it will probably be deleted at some point, offer them here for a more permanent record as a learning tool of sorts:
Too many implied leading lines.
We can find them everywhere in every facet of life, but in a challenge where it is the main subject to represent, it should take my eyes straight to it, and follow it from one point in the image to the other. It should lead my eyes in a direction, preferrably with a focal point at the end.
Yours has too many and I'm sure the voter's eyes went all over this image, as did mine.
