Let's say I have submitted a photo to a challenge. It's in the voting stage and I have also posted this same image (it could be the same one and just a different size) onto a personal web site.

First of all, is this legal within the rules of a DPC challenge? Would it be an advantage or disadvantage for me? If it is legal, is it fair?

Here's the justification: I took a photo of a family member that fits within a challenge timeframe. I want to enter the challenge. I also want other (my family) to see the photo, so I post it to a website.

TIA.

If you're not posting a link from here to there, I think it's fine. I do it all the time. No one here has my link for my personal website. It is strictly for my family and close friends.

If you're concerned, I would make certain that you don't have links to the site in question in your portfolio here....or linked from a site that's linked in your portfolio here.

I've got a couple of websites where I post stuff, but they're not public knowledge for DPCers. If there's some way to filter who can view the photos at the other site, perhaps you could set it so just family and identified friends can see them? That's what I try to do.

Is it that long to wait until the end of voting? If so then email it to them directly. I'm sure it's DPC legal if that's what you mean..

Two weeks can be a long time to wait to post a photo, especially if you're prolific.

I post stuff to my personal websites with reckless abandon. And yes, they are often available on sites linked to DPC in some way or another. But that doesn't mean I'm pointing DPCers at particular photos on my websites. I conducted an experiment awhile back which sufficiently proved to me that it doesn't affect my scores at all. So few people look compared to the number of votes that any given photo gets that it really doesn't make much difference if people DO know it's there.

I don't post elsewhere (unless I truly don't care .. happened once) until the challenge is over. That includes my personal website which is not advertised anywhere.

... or a link from there to here.

The pictures are your's to post where you please, as long as you don't do it in such a way as to try an influence the voting here.

Sounds like I have the feedback I was looking for.

My best bet would be to just wait (a maximum of) two weeks until the challenge is over to "publicize" a photo.

As usual, you guys are a great help. Thanks all!
