Colour me stupid, etc., but what's with these D200 kits at £800 and such.
Is it just the lack of mainland based guarantor/service centre, or is there some other huge rip-off happening beneath the price?
Anyone have experience with e.g. digital rev. or ishop? |

Import duty into the UK. Beware, can be alot more than you think.

I have spent more than I care to think of with Albert over at Kea Photo - excellent service and often faster delivery than buying from the UK.

I have bought from Digital Rev several times with no problems.
Issues to be aware of are:
Import tax (tends to be a lot lower than VAT, but is a bit unpredictable unless you go for one of Digital Rev's "we pay import duty" auctions - pay more, but get certainty (they refunded my import tax no problems).
Warranty - lenses come with an international warranty, bodies don't. If you have a warranty issue, then you will have to rely on Digital Rev to handle this for you in HK - time consuming. - edit: this relates to Canon - don't know about Nikon.

I just made my first purchase from HK Supplies on eBay (last week). I bought a set of Kenko extension tubes for about $75 USD. I just received notice yesterday that the item has just been shipped, so I imagine that it'll take another 7-10 days to arrive. I just hope that they didn't ship the tubes with an incorrect mount...it would take another 3-4 weeks to return and await the correct shipment. HK did have a very high rating on eBay, though... |

Never have had a problem.
And no tax paid in my case (I live in Spain) because they minimized the amount on the Customs' form (it was a lens and the hood).
One time , a filter was missing (I suppose stolen by someone at the spanish post office) , I wrote them and a week later new parcel with the filter !
