Walloped by Hurricane Juan
Well, Halifax Nova Scotia Canada is still recovering from Hurricane Juan that hit the city during the night of Sunday Sept 28th to Monday Sept 29th. The hurricane made landfall just south of the city and packed sustained winds upwards of 145 km/h (that's 90 mph for you non metric folks). Wind speed was even higher where we live. Our house escaped damage as did our vehicles, but some of our neighbours weren't so lucky. The city was completely blacked out by 1 a.m. on Monday morning. Here we are Wednesday morning and we still don't have electrical or telephone service in my neighbourhood. Two thirds of the city remain in the dark. They are forecasting that some residents, mostly those in outlying areas may not receive electrical service until late this week or early next week.. I am writing this email from my workplace at the airport (see my bio) since I am considered essential personnel. My wife (teacher) is at home since all schools remain closed and will probably remain thus until next Monday.
I have taken some pictures, but not as much as I would have wished to. It's already dark when I get home from work, so I don't have the chance to take any pictures. My PC at work does not support USB ports so I can't share any pictures for the time being. I will try to post a few as soon as we can power home.
However, I am pleased with my results in the Macro challenge: a respectable 33rd with a score of 6.07. Not bad for a third entry.

Here's hoping you're having a better week than mine.

Got some pics off the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's web site. They're not the best quality, but it gives you an idea of some of the damage.
crushed car (glad it's not mine)

sorry to hear about the Huricane up in Halifax. I guess I need to watch the news a little bit more because this is the first I have heard of it.
I have been there several times and its real pretty up there, but that was 15 years ago.

My niece in P.E.I. had her tree crash into her roof, causing a hole and water damage. I shoould ask her if she had a chance to take photos of it. |
