I have dvd software (Ulead and Roxio), but the problem is my photos. At top resolution (8.2mpx) I can hardly fit enough on the DVD once I create the slideshow. At 640px wide and 72dpi, they look terrible on my 36" tube TV.

I want to know what DPI is best to use, what width & height is recommended for a tube tv? What is best for an HD tv? I know photoshop well. :)

You could probably get away with double the normal web size (1280 x 1024). That's usually the max for projectors. You may have to experiment.

DPI really only matters for prints.

i've been using "pro show" for a couple weeks now ... so not a great amount of experance ....

i've typically been ripping my web images (for one set) roughtly 1500 pixels max in any one dir & letting the software deal with the decimation & been moderatly happy
another slideshow is scanned slides which are 4200x2700 (but to save cycles i will pre decimate them to 1/4 or so rez.)
works ok (with lots of ram in the box making the side show ...

you will never get computer monitor resolution since standard tvs are -roughly- 512x512 pixels on the screen,
HDTV will get you 1080x800 or there abouts
the process in converting the images to the mpeg2 usually hurts the images as well / some programs may drop the brightness or saturation a bit just to fit in the TV's gamut

i don't use DPI as a measure but actual pixles -
others may have different experiances ...
