I am doing a portrait for a co worker. Its her grandmothers 100th bday and the portrait is going to be her and about 40 other family members. It will be an outdoor shoot.
My question is...
1. which lens would you recommend. I have pretty much the entire L series to choose from. What focal length would do me the best?
2. Any recommendations of poses for that many people.

I'd use the Canon 24-70 2.8L if that one is available to you.
I generally try to avoid going wide angle (less than 50mm) for any of my group shots, which means backing up. But with a crowd of 40 people, you might have to go wide angle. The trick will be creatively posing all 40 people...

This was a family portrait of close to 40 people. I couldnt get them all into the room at the same time so I shot individual families and then photoshopped them all together. It is a bit sloppy only because I had no clue what I was doing at the time both with the camera and with photoshop. If done properly this could be a good alternative I guess. |
