I presently have a Tamron 24-135 as my walkaround lens (nice, bright and sharp), also have a Canon 100mm 2.8 macro and the 70-200 f4L. I have an opportunity to pick up a used/mint 17-40 L lens (another zoom, but after all it is an L). My question: would the 17-40 L be a wise addition, or should I go with the 50/1.4 and the 20/2.8? I'm leaning towards the 17-40 (depending on the used price) because it's a good opportunity to pick up an L lens. Then again, I can pick up the two primes probably for what I'll pay for the L. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Out of all my lenses the 17-40mm is the best, I reckon you would be hard pushed to tell the difference between images from the primes and the 17-40mm, and of course you have the versatility of a zzom to boot.

Well, the used lens was getting into a bidding war (and its already 1-1/2 years old). I decided to bite the bullet and get a new 17-40L. The used lens was close to $500, and new lens was only about $150 more than the used lens...can't wait to try it out. Thanks to each of you for the input/recommendations.
