I'm going to Los Angeles for a business trip. I'll have a few hours to see the sights. I plan on seeing the Walk of Fame and I'm going to eat at Phillippe's. I'm interested in doing some photography as well. Are there any other notable places to check out? Thanks.

If you will have a rental car, this will give you much more freedom to roam.

Locate the Hollywood sign up on the hill and then drive toward it using residential streets. Go up as far as you can without ruining the perspective for your composition.

There are plenty of tall palm trees all around. For some "repeating patterns" images, you can always find many palms lined up in rows.

If you are flying into/out of LAX, the structure in the middle of the airport (the Encounter Restaurant) makes for a great architectural shot. In it's day, it was really "space-age". :D

Of course, up and down Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Blvd, you can get all sorts of candids and photojournalism-type of shots.

There are infinitely more photo ops in this area. Since your time is limited, I just gave you a few popular ones. If you go "off the beaten path", you find a ton more.

I'd go to Venice beach and rent a surf board. :-)

Come down the coast here to Huntington Beach and rent a "real" surfboard, not one of those foam covered tourist boards.

Since you'll be in Hollywood, a 5 minute drive from Hollywood Blvd. (depending on traffic) will take you to a nice overlook on the famouse Mulholland Drive. It overlooks downtown LA, Hollywood, and the Hollywood sign. It's especially nice just before/at sunset. Here's a map:

Just go up Highland (stay to the left by the Hollywood Bowl and don't go under the freeway), then take a left on Mulholland Drive and go up. You'll see a small parking lot probably a mile up on the left, just turn in there. I don't have any of my own photos to show you, never been there with my camera yet, but google up "Hollywood Bowl overlook" and you'll see some. Have fun!
