Does anyone else use Picasa 2 on a regular basis and/or is profecient in it?
I'm trying to see if you can dodge, burn, layer, etc...

you can't do any of that stuff. I use it primarily as a photo browser.
The editing features are not really useful, either buy paint shop pro, or photoshop elements. Or use the Gimp which is free and and very powerful but has a UI and ergonomic workflow from hell.
Obviously Photoshop CS2 is better than any of the above, but I'm guessing you don't want to spend hundreds of pounds. |

It has been my experience that you can’t do any of these things i.e. doge/burn or pretty much anything that you can do in Photoshop and paint shop to name two. I used it and found it good but very basic.

It's best as a photo browser/organizer.
But I wouldnt' say the editing features are useless. It's good for sharpening, modifying levels (via tuning shadows, fill, and highlight), cropping, removing redeye, and batch resizing/converting. And it does those things quickly and easily.
This coming from someone who uses and loves photo editing tools like Photoshop. It's just easy sometimes to make little tweaks right in your photo browser.
Also - an interesting note about the way Picasa applies filters: I think you have to export the images for the filters to be written back into the image. In other words, I don't think it modifies original files, but rather keeps a stack of operations for any given image. Which can be nice and can be a pain - just be aware of it.
Cheers,
-Jeff

it's great for photo browsing and for making some minor adjustments to shots so you can throw them up on the web... into the free space that google provides for that function...
i use it mostly for posting family snapshots and such :

| I've started to use it. Mostly so I can use the new web folder feature for sharing family snapshots and stuff. It's a great photo browser and organizer, however, with this beta version I can't upload anything. After a couple of pics, for some strange reason it freezes up my router and all http traffic. |

...and there's no mac version either
I use it on my work laptop to go through a few hundred football photos - pick the keepers, do some basic croping and levels and then do a slideshow for the players to pick the ones they want to buy. The ones thet want I'll then edit on on my home computer using photoshop.
