Does anybody have this lens or any experience with it. I'm looking at buying it but want to make sure its worth the money and what others think about it. Thanks in advance.

Just read a review on this in a magazine. According to their tests it performs much worse than the 105mm from sigma while costing a good bit more. YMMV

Sorry misread question. Thought you were asking about the 105 macro by Sigma.

Photozone reviewed the Canon version here. It seems as a few are experienceing decentering effects, so if you have good luck it could be a great lens. If the Nikon version had an aperature ring I'd gamble on it.

Magazine I was referring to is Photography Monthly.

Verdict: This is a solidly-made lense tht performs well and it's a great focal length if you want a comfortable working distance from your subject. Not cheap, but worth a look

Pros: Quiet AF, tripod collar

Cons: Wide aperture performance

If you care, of everything they reviewed (canons, sigmas, olympus, pentax, nikon) the Sigma 105mm ranked first, the Tamron SP AF 90mm f2.8 Di Macro ranked second, and the Pentax 100mm took third.

Also, the sigma 150mm signifigantly outscored the canon 180mm 3.5L.

Thanks man, thats alot of info. Its a lens that I've wanted for a while but now I'm thinking of other things I might get instead. How do you like the Sigma 105?

Well, I don't care much for bug and flower shots but it is nice to have it in the bag. For doing closeup shots you generally need to stop down to f22 or higher to get everything in focus. My experience with the 105 pretty much matches the reviews I've read about it. Noisy and slowish autofocus, and very good optical performance between f11-f45 where it counts on a lense for this use.

Bitching about autofocus on a macro is sort of silly since 99.9% of the time you have to manual focus anyway.

Finish on the lense is nice, it is solidly constructed. Comes with hood and bag. Price is a bit less than its Canon counterpart (also a fine lense).

I don't like the push/pull thing to be able to manually focus when it is in autofocus mode, but it doesn't bother me enough to have spent an extra hundred bucks for canon's USM.

Long story short, it is a five or six hundred dollar lense (I forget) which I've used about 3 times since I bought it. When I've used it, I've been very pleased.

I don't know anything about that lens...however...I just bid on a 80-200 mm f2.8 Nikon lens.

I wil be selling my 105mm f2.8 lens for between $350 - $400. This lens is in perfect shape and is my favorite. Check portfolio for samples.

Let me know!
