It seems that a lot of the leading line photos have leading lines, but no subject that is being led to. Am I being to picky about this? How does everyone else feel?

I wouldn't say that it DNMC, if it's got "leading lines", then it clearly has met the challenge.
Of course, if I personally felt that the lines should lead to something, then I might be tempted to give a lower mark if they don't. |

It's one thing to have leading lines. It's another thing to actually use them to create impact. I guess that's the subjective part - everyone has a different interpretation as to whether or not the lines actually contribute.
For me, compositional implies that it's not good enough to just have them there. They actually have to do something. Otherwise it's just an egg hunt.
