I started working on this image, but I was having trouble making it more interesting. The color version just didn't seem to be working.

Maybe it is the color. The sky is too blue. Then I did a sepia version. Much better.

Next I decided to just twiddle with the knobs in Photoshop and see what I could come up with. As best I can remember, I used levels, curves, and selective color. Then I went into liquid and moved the shape of the tall cactus around since I decided after having stared at it so long that it looked like a person in a robe with their hands in front of them. I also made the rock more of a pyramid. Resizing and a bit of sharpening. And this was the final product. From boring to dramatic and mysterious. Comments?

I like what you're doing here with the shape shifting. I do NOT like what's happened to the colors, though; they are muddy/greenish and unappealing. Plus you have visible banding in the sky now. Hopefully you can work a compromise between the two color versions to find a more appealing median.

I love the changes to the shapes, tho I agree with the sky. Also, the distortions to the clouds left of the rock leave it easy to see the distortion you did there. I really think you're onto a very neat picture, though :D

I went back and took a horizontal view of the same scene and did a new version. I tried to take some of your suggestions into consideration. I think it works better. Any comments?

Yes, much better. There's still banding in the sky, and the "texture" on the rock could be rendered better, but the cactus figure is great and the image is much more dynamic now. I like the muted colors as well.

One more attempt. I again started from scratch with the horizontal version. Looks like my crop came out a little different too. I was more careful on the "liquid" on and near the rock to preserve detail. Some detail seems to have been lost (as in the other ones) in the cactus man.

This image, to me, might work better in black and white or sepia over color. Color acts as a distraction. You did a sepia version but might be better still in pure B&W. Unsure how Dali would feel about that. ;)
