Cheers for the explanation Calvus. Pitsman has some crackers doessn't he...
Hey Bod some beuties there.
Jas0420 Whatever your girlfriend picks, it had best be brilliant. I don't know if that picture screams flight -- but it does scream excellence just by looking at it. Personally I think you could have excused the slight blurriness as soft focus anyway, but some people may not appreciated the artistic talents that are required for soft focus :)
In any case I am glad that I am not competing against any of these pictures in the challenge. They are all quite brilliant.
Just for the record, I was very very close to submitting number 28 from my collection -- if I get under 5.5 and I will wonder why I did not? |

This is the general idea: Time Flies
I used a somewhat similar effect on my entry for "The Future" challenge, except I used a radial blur to give a sense of motion in the Z-axis (towards/away from the viewer). |
I really like that! Now, could you tell me the steps you took to get that? And you said earlier it wouldn't have been legal for the challenge?

For Time Flies, I created a new channel (not layer) and used a soft-edged paintbrush to mask out the clock. I then went back to Layers and duplicated the Background (photo). While on the new layer, I loaded the selection (the mask channel) and applied the motion blur at about 16 degrees and 10 pixels. I then lowered the transparency of the blurred layer to about 88% to let some of the original photo show through, so as to keep some detail. But all of those values can be played-around with to go from very subtle to quite extreme effects (tro a blur of 30 pixels).
For my clock, I think I used the elliptical marquee, then highly feathered the selection, before applying a radial blur.
If you send me your email address, I can send you the Photoshop file I made with the mask and all. |

The plane and clouds are nice, but I would crop out the bottom half of the shot. |

Nukkta, I agree with ellamay... I was actually playing around with your pic doing that very thing... If you crop it from the top of the pic to slightly below the wheels, it takes away the reference of the ground and almost makes it look like you're flying beside the plane when you took the pic... My eye was really drawn down to the sign that protruded up into the sky is the reason I was cropping it. I also brightened the image a bit and decreased the contrast a little and it brough out a lot of the detail of the underside of the plane that you can't see right now. I also increased the saturation a bit and it brought out the pretty blue sky that was peeking through... Give it a try and see what you think! Good capture though! |
