I want to do some large scale light painting outdoors and was looking at a rechargeable spotlight . One's listed at 1 million candlepower, the other at 2 million.

Can anyone give me a good idea of what this means?
Would this be suitable for light painting a large scene or from a distance (say 25-50 feet)?

Any help is extremely appreciated.

Candlepower is a measure of the amount of light output from the spotlight at some specified distance. Without knowing what distance that 1 million or 2 million measurement was taken at, it is impossible to tell much about the spotlight in question. 2 million candlepower at a distance of 1 mile is one hell of a bright light. 2 million candlepower at a distance of ten feet is quite a bit less impressive.

edit: odds are your average spotlight will work just fine since you can always compensate with your exposure time.
