Wondering why my moon shots are not doing so well. It looks fuzzy at the bottom... This is the first moon shot I have taken I actually like tho.. |

The shutter speed of 1 second could be the culprit for fuzziness. The moon is moving. (very slowly, but still moving) Using mirror lockup might help as well. The mirror slap may cause the fuzziness as well.
At f9 you should be able to shoot at a faster shutter speed. Using the sunny f16 rule it would be 1/200 at f16 though slightly more exposure is usually needed so somewhere around 1/125 at f16 should work. |

That's actually a pretty good moon you've got there. Cpan is right, the shutter speed is probably responsible for part of it. Damn the Earth's rotation! |

Need to bump up your f-stop. Try shooting around f-16. Don't worry about under exposing a little as you can get the details out in post processing...

You can also set your camera to the Tv setting - use ISO 200 and a shutter speed of 1/250. The camera will then use the appropriate aperature. If it tries to over expose, switch back to manual and adjust the aperature from there.
Here's the one I shot recently of the full moon using the Tv setting method.

It would be an option in one of the menus. The default for mirror lockup is off. |

I'm not sure mirror lockup is going to have a large effect on a 1 second exposure...

Unfortunately, the D70s doesn't have mirror lockup, at least not for taking images. You can 'lock up' the mirror for sensor cleaning, but the rest of the electronics in the camera switch off when you choose this option from the menu. |
