I have on loan an EOS-1 Ds Mark II

Any advise in setting up its focusing system and maybe some tips on shooting it. I have the 70-200 IS with it and need to familiarize myself with it to compare it with a Nikon D2xs. This is my first time with it and I'm a bit lost. I'd just like to shoot in Manual mode and be able to go between single shot and multi burst. Can some one give me a crash course here. I'll make it worth your while. Thanks for the help

Hey Nick - I'm at the shop.
Haven't personally used one, but am pretty familiar with Canon.
Between the 2 of us and the net and the manual, I'm sure we can break it.

the area af ellipe has 45 af points How doyou select the right ones?

push the button closest to the upper right on the back, then spin the wheel on top - you should ssee the selected focus points changing through the viewfinder until you find the spot you want ---- that is if it works like the 20D & 30D

Take a quick look there for basics on setting AF.
top nd rear dials are used to move the single AF point around. Auto function uses 21-point, all 45 points great for AI mode (tracking a moving object)

I'm still at the shop (between 7-11 & AM/PM across from Eagles Point Apts)
Can stay here and play all night if needed. (look for the artificial daylight - I have a very bright shop)

You want me to come to the shops?
09/13/2006 01:27:49 AM · #12
Between the two of us, the net and the manual and being a canon owner (not the big buck canon mind you) shouldn't be too hard to get the basics down. Feel free to stop by Nick - I'm just down the road from you (I think) 1556 E. Grand

what time are you cozying up to the register in the morning?
09/13/2006 01:46:59 AM · #18
Haven't really been out that way Nick. Prolly get lost.
I can meet you here anytime in the morning 5, 6, 7, 8 (I open at 8)
I have 2 vehicles being dropped off in the morning but will be left all day, so I have a couple hours in the morning I can spend with you if needed. In the mean time, I'll be reading up on it - seems fairly understandable.

The Canon logo musta' been too much and he passes out....

I'm not sure he should be playing with an expensive camera that's only on loan to him if he's under the influence!

Brad - that's awfully nice of you to offer to go into your shop early and help him out come morning. There really are some good people left here at DPC, huh?

Hey Brad,
sorry I haven't had a chance to thank you for the heads up the other night. You really saved my bacon. The link you posted was enough to get me through the assignment. I owe you big time. I'll be by next week to take you out for lunch. I was so stressed the other night I actually had a beer and I rarely drink. I needed to calm the nerves a bit. Damn Canon has to be so opposite Nikon? Anyway I managed to do quite well with what I got from the site. I returned the Canon, probably never going to touch another. I decided to stay with Nikon since the Canon thing was so much trouble to try and re-learn.
