We are looking at a LCD flat panel for a Mac as a gift to my mother in law, who is an artist.

My brother in law can get a Lenovo (IBM) ThinkVision L192 at a discount. I couldn't find any reviews, nor find out what sort of panel it had in it.

Anyone have one or have an opinion about it?

Our other option would be the Dell UltraSharp 1907FPV 19-inch. We have several of those (over the model life of the 1900 series and they seem pretty good, although they are not S-IPS. But even that would be about $60 more than the IBM model, so thus the question about the IBM as an "equivalent" (or better) alternative to the lower priced Dell

I would love to get her the Dell 2007 FP or FPW, which is a S-IPS, but it's about $100 too much. Unless I happen to find a Dell coupon on top of the current sale!

Check Ebay for coupons. Right now there's a coupon for $1 to save 20% on a flat panel monitor. Expires in about an hour: Ebay Expires the 13th, but there's other ones, just search Dell coupon.

Neil, if you want to find out a given LCD's panel type you can go to:
www.flatpanels.dk. Since most of this web site is in Danish and not in English, I'll have to direct you to the appropriate page.

From the home page and on the left side under the heading of "generelt" click on "panelsogning." Then click on "english" under the heading of the page it brings you to. Then type in the make and model of the monitor you are interested in the space next to "sog efter" and click on "sog" to get your results.

Instead of typing in a make/model, you can also type in "s-ips" and it will bring up all of the LCDs in its database of this type. The database is not comprehensive for models available to the US (so I've found).

Also, another web site for coupons you can check out is: dealmac.com.
