Hey I was just curious as to how everyone choosed which of their photos to enter for the challenges?

Gut instint? Do you go with your original choice or second guess and pick something else? Get family and friends oppinions?

Just wondering becuase I never can seem to decide and then I'm kicking myself after on my poor choice.

I upload all my photos to my computer into a folder named after the challenge. I make multiple viewing passes through the folder.

First, I delete the obvious ones (out of focus, etc.)

Then I pick one from each bracketed group. I usually bracket the exposure when shooting for a challenge, if possible.

After trimming down the bracket groups, I further narrow the field by picking two or three compositions that I like.

I take these finalists and run them through Photoshop (and neat image) to see what the potential is for each. Many times, a photo can be eliminated at this stage because, while editing, you may see something that you may not like, which was missed in the elimination rounds.

When I've post-processed the photos, which means I'm usually down to two (maybe three). I choose the best one and further post-process, if possible.

Couple variations on this.

1) Go with what YOU want.
2) Get the opinion of family or friends
3) Put yourself in the voters chair and ask if if moves you and/or has enough wow.
4) Get a bunch of DPC friends and ask their opinons.
5) Get in fanatics a lot and ask their opinions.
6) Use numbers 4 & 5 above.
7) Post it on other websites and get feedback.
8) Go with what YOU want.

I prefer #1 & 7 myself.
I like to keep mine anonymous.

I usually get imput from my 20 something daughters friends. For some reason, they seem to choose the right ones, or give me ideas for photos which do well. I also download all, get rid of oof, and then decide if any are worth working on. If not, I go out again. Can't tell you how many shots I took of Single tree, and the one I chose I only did because it had the most interest and was about the most in focus. I will admit, though, I re-edited at least 6 times. I don't expect it to do well, but it really was the best one I got.

Thanks for your imput everyone. I do the sorting and the editing and the reeditng but it alwats comes down to 2 or 3. For this next one, everyone is saying one photo, and I am thinking the other. So I'm torn. I guess many outside opinions could be trusted since they have no stock in the success of the photo, they just pick what they like.

Ah, we do have something in common! This way, if my photo bombs, then my wife can have a sense of victory. It's a win-win!
