Thanks. I've improved my Free Study slightly based on comments, but have kept it dark.
As for Single Tree, it's made it back to 4.0 for now. I'm really frustrated because this afternoon I got the shot I really wanted for that challenge, but couldn't pull off last week because there were obstructions when I was at the right place. If I edit it right, I'll post it next week. For now I just have to look at these horrific scores.

Yay! I got a comment.. and it confirms what I suspected... the fact that it looks pretty bad on my work monitor, means it likely looks pretty bad on most voter's monitors- which might be part of my icky score. Bummer, oh well... I'll have to keep playing with my home settings to try and figure out why I keep having so much trouble with darkness vs. lightness...:) |

I haven´t followed threads with scores much before, people in this challenge are only getting 4 and low 5´s isn´t that unusual?
I remember seeing score threads where people are getting really high scores from the beginning but here no! What gives? |

Thanks for the lone comment KaDi. Your feedback hints at what may be wrong. If it's not DNMC, it's the picture. I tried something a bit different in PP and perhaps that's what you picked up on. I actually feel better, even with my sucky score. |

If this wee rant is directed at me...it is undeserved. And a little harsh, people always come to the forums and discuss scores, give the poor crappy photogs a break, would ya!? I was not nor have I ever "blamed" the voters. Nor would I feel compelled to cheat. I don't require you to validate me by any stretch of the imagination :-)
Remember Slippy's opinion is the only one that is right! hahaha

No. It wasn't directed at you in particular, I'm just a bit tired of all the voter-bashing.
As for your camera, since you have 8 of the top 10 rated photos with that camera, perhaps it's time you invested in something better.
And for the record, my opinion is the only one that counts. :-p |

Heading for a personal second lowest score from DPC and couldn´t care less, I really dig this image and frankly expected this.
A little dissapointed in the comments though, I have in my history here in DPC marked all but probably 5-10 comments as not helpful but of these nine, I can´t really mark but two of them as helpful as the others are really odd, peculiar or utterly pointless or I strongly disagree with them. EXTREMELY happy with the two favorites and while I expected the score, I didn´t expect them (at least so soon in the voting)

I strongly disagree with some of my comments, but I still think that they can be helpful. They help to show what other people think about your photo - which is, I would have thought, the whole point of a place like this.

I think I would appreciate comments if they weren't all "how clever" and "very nice" and "wow, should score high!" when the score clearly doesn't reflect what the few commenters are saying. I've got three right now, only one is negative, and none really say what is so horribly wrong with the photo so as to merit a score so utterly pathetic. So yes, I blame the voters. Because they aren't leaving comments, and the sparse comments they do leave don't correlate to a sub-5 score.

I've voted in over half of the entries. I like what I see for the most part. Lots of 6s and 7s. I don't see why the votes have been so low.
I thought I had a pretty strong entry. Was down at 4.4 early on. Recovered a bit, but still not up to my standards.

Sorry, but I'm only responsible for my 1 vote and my 1 comment on any picture. If you have a problem with the rest of the universe, take it up with them. |

There seem to be a fair number of low scores reported here.
I'm guessing this challenge--for whatever reason, right or wrong--is being voted "unusually" low, which is upsetting people here.
The best advice I can give is turn off your scores. You may still end up placing higher than you expect.
One thing you don't want to do is to "vote mad". After all, that will only drive the average scoring even further (circular). NOTE: I'm not saying you are doing it, but the discussion has been made before about people voting lower when they receive low scores, and it's pertinent here.
Off-topic perhaps, but I still think it would be a "plus" for DPC to have scores UNAVAILABLE during the challenge. Comments visible, but not scores. I know it would be a little less fun, but you'd save time and think of all the bandwidth DPC would save!

This is soooo sad. I went back after my original submission and redid my processing cuz the original looked horrible. Stupid me finished the processing but, you guessed it, forgot to upload the new one to replace the crappy one! Man I suck! I can't believe my score is still 4+. For now...

I will take a little more joy about Larus' score cause our team needs to beat his this week for Team Untouchables to break into the wildcard slot for the WPL. Not that I want to see anyone do bad, just want 7 people inparticular to do just slightly worse than 7 other people inparticular. ;) |
