I totally agree. But I spent hours on PP and that's what I got

Creative entry? Check.
Single tree in evidence? Check.
Decently shot? Check.
Becky's score is quite inexplicably in the crapper? Check. Because that's how creative, well shot entries that meet the challenge are met these days when I'm the one who shoots them. :P

No one even came close to my idea, which I knew would be true, and I was hoping the ingenuity would tickle people. My best guess is that no one gets the joke, which is really sad. The idea that people may get the joke and not like it makes me weep for humanity. I so completely and utterly give up.

Challenge description: "Take a photo where a single tree is the main subject." I added the bold and I think that's the problem here. This certainly means (to me) that you can have other trees and still meet topic.

I'm tempted to self DQ at this point. It's not worth it to see this happen all week.

Right. My entry doesn't fall into this category, but my initial vision was of a mountainside full of green trees and one that had turned yellow - the yellow standing out and therefore being the subject. It probably would have won the brown, though, being that voters here have become so narrow minded.

this is the lowest scoring first day i have ever seen. except for a couple of 6+ and a handful of 5+, most scores posted are 4+.

mine is at 5.2. ouch!

Maybe not brown yet, but 3 more votes and drop down to 5.02. With the score dropping like a rock for what is a decent picture, DNMC has to be it. I could have done something similar to the last Free Study or Zen shot and got a good score, but wanted something different. I guess I got what I wanted.

Got to go now. Maybe I should stay away for the rest of the week. I actually worked quite hard on this one. Trouble is people are always telling me my pictures are too dark (even my free study which managed 5.63). Trouble is I like them that way.

I LOVED YOUR FREE STUDY!!!!! I think i gave it a 9 or a 10... i thought it was excellent... i commented on it too!! :-)

I say, if you like them dark... thats all that matters...

You know if you have 2 dq's in 6 months it is a weeks suspension...just a heads up...I was grounded from dpc once for the same reason !

Just an FYI on the rules pertaining to this item (from Challenge Rules):

"In order to discourage repeated disqualifications and abuse of the disqualification system, the following penalties will apply for repeat disqualifications:
1st DQ in last 25 submissions: No penalty
2nd DQ in last 25 submissions: 1 week suspension of submission privileges
3rd DQ in last 25 submissions: 2 week suspension of submission privileges
4th DQ in last 25 submissions: 4 week suspension of submission privileges and 3 months of required "pre-submission" of proof file."

Thanks for the clarification..I'd hate to see anyone self dq and end up out for a week !

Well, it looks as if I'm in good company, anyhow. And I commiserate with all the other sub-5s in this thread.

And, no, I'm not going to vote on this one for a day or two. (well, actually, I think I'll leave town)

In any event, it's time to turn the scores off.

You know , I don't get it..I have been trying to be not as hard when voting. I wanted to bring up my average vote given. I just thought I was being harsh. But it seems as I am softening up, the rest of the voters are getting tougher!!

I KNOW my image ( as I assume most of yours, too) is not a 4!! :-P

after reading the full thread, i'm starting to feel much better about my score...

well, not really, but it would make a heck of a poker hand... especially if we're counting 0 as a joker, that makes 5 of a kind... woohoo!

my simple pleasures score is a full house, too!

how sad is it that the most interesting aspect of my photo is that the current score would do well in poker?!?

I imagine if you contact SC they can do it for you. But be sure that's what you want to do if you feel all hope is lost. If you get comments that can help you improve, it may be worth leaving it in.

I'm still not sure whether to self DQ or not. If it's too boring or something is technically wrong, I can take it. If I get DNMC comments I will be upset since I'm convinced it does meet challenge.

I was so looking forward to this challenge. I knew the tree I was going to shoot. Then it was finally announced. I had my shot the first day of the challenge. I really messed up apparently. :)

Well, if you're like me, when you "take your creativity to the next level", you suddenly slide from a 5.7-6.1ish player to a sub-5 player. Barely over 5 now. :P

OK, my shot wasn't creative, but here's that sub-5 score:
