Well, I've gone and done it again.
Went out today and bought a 30D. I gave the Fuji S9500 a good try, but although a good camera, found it lacking after the 300D.
I found myself in Jessops to have a look at the 400D. It is a great little camera, and this is the problem...same size as the 350D. It just felt too small to me. So, my eyes went back to the 30D alongside it. They had it priced at £879.99. Asked the salesman what best price was? He said if I could name a shop or web site that do it cheaper, they would match that price. I suggested that their own website was £25 cheaper! Then told him the WarehouseExpress Online had it for £819 with kit lens, he checked and told me they would match that, but had to include p&p they would have charged. So, I got it for £826, then he told me that there was an offer on the Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 LD 1:2 Macro, £99 instead of £199. Need I say more!
So, there you go...now need to charge battery and read the manual.

| Congrats Steve, I had missed your switch to the fuji. I'll be anxious to hear what you think of the 30D. That's a the top of my wish list now, though my venerable 10D is still a faithful companion. |

Thanks ivaldovi.
By the way, my S9500 is on ebay with 3 days to go at £199. I was going to keep it, but that cash will buy or go towards a lens or flash.

strangeghost, I will keep you posted on 30D. I sold the 300D in January and all the extras...went back to a basic camera!! S9500 ain't that basic, hoping to find that spark again. But, once you've used the DSLR there is no going back. Although the Fuji was 9 megapixel, that sharpness and adaptability wasn't there.

Steve, my sincerest apologies to you an everyone else, for what lies below. (what I first thought of when I saw your thread title):
Back to a DSLR
(to the tune of the Beatles' 'Back to the USSR')
Came in from a photo shoot all loaded up
Didn't get to bed last night
Popped the card into my reader right away
Photoshop was burning hot
I'm back to a DSLR
You don't know how lucky you are boy
Back to a DSLR
Been away so long I hardly knew for sure
When to use the custom modes
In a rush to stop and change my aperture
I almost made my brain explode
I'm back to a DSLR
You don't know how lucky you are boy
Back to a DS
Back to a DS
Back to a DSLR
Well the Nikon girls really knock me out
They leave the rest behind
And Pentax girls make me sing and shout
That L-Glass always on my my my my my my my mind.
I'm back to a DSLR boy
You don't know how lucky you are boy
Back to a DSLR

Well, I just wish I had thought of that first!
It fits so well, I'm back in the DSLR.
Thanks strangeghost!

One of the first taken with 30D and Tamron 70-300. It isn't the best, but I haven't had a chance to read the manual yet.
