How can i tell if what i'm seeing on my computer as far as colors, brightness, and contrast is what other people see on their computers. For Instance my Sunday afternoon picture.. I wanted the picture to be dark somewhat but when i logged in on a computer at my school the picture was darker then i intended.

You can't since you have no idea how the other monitors are adjusted or calibrated. There's a nice grey scale that's on the voting pages which might "hint" voters to adjust their screens, but lots of monitors are set wrong.

On my monitor it is, IMO, darker than it should be. I can't make out the face or head of the person up against the tree.

Have you calibrated you monitor? If you have PS do an Adobe Calibration on your PC.

Depending on what computer and OS you use, you can do some calibration stuff pretty easily. One thing that directly affects darkness and lightness of pictures is the "gamma" setting of your monitor, very closely related to white balance in your camera. For instance, Macs and Windoz boxes use a different "native gamma" that often has the effect of making pictures that look great on the Mac appear too dark on Windows.

Do some google searching on monitor calibration, gamma, etc. and read up.
