I am creating a webpage and want to create a link so that when the user clicks on it, they get the 'download' prompt. It is easy to do as a file, but what if the link is to an image?

So basically i want to crreate an image download link. Does anyone know how to code that in php, html, or java? I have searched a bit but can't find any info.

hi,
i think this is not so trivial to make since file extensions are localy handled, so maybe to instruct the visitor to "right click" on the photo and then press "save image as ..." (depends on browser) is the easy solution , or ... i get it now ... when user clicks an photo the photo is passedto gzip or some other archive utility and then when is finished it simply offers the user to download the gzip archive or whatever :-)
huh?

i'll try to do that on my website

well i was hoping to avoid having to have the user right click on the image.

I would like just a link on one page, and then when they click that link they get prompted to download the image. gzip would be ok, but it would be nice not to have to 'process' the image'... hmmmmm

pickey aren't I
