Hello I've noticed that for any shots that aren't super well lit,I have an outrageous amount of noise. I don't usually use flash and I only have a P&S. Anything I could do on my camera settings to cut down on noise?

You can use software like neatimage to remove it later, but in the camera itself you are pretty much stuck. |

Always use the lowest ISO possible. The higher the ISO the greater the risk of noise. |

Do what you can to get more light on a subject... this includes bounces, flashes, whatever... and try to stick with the lowest ISO you can.

I know your pain, ISO 400 is practically unusable on my camera. I find noise reduction software works very well, unless you want to make large prints, then the loss in sharpness will become problematic. |

Can't help you with the settings, but I've used a couple of tricks to help minimize noise during PP:
Blurring helps in areas where there isn't much detail. The BG on this shot was very noisy and blotchy. I layered it, guassian blurred the layer underneath and then erased the noisy layer on top (yellow BG area). I use this a lot in my shots with BOKEH. In some shots, the selective blur tool works well, especially on smaller noisy areas.
You can also use the sponge tool to desaturate some noisy areas or use a similar type color adjustment.
Using a tripod and getting the best possible exposure is critical in avoiding noise. That way you don't need as much processing; which really exxagerates the problem.
