If you noticed another thread called Did I Miss Something, you would know I haven't been getting any CC's and as a member of the CC I wondered why.

Well this photo even before the challenge, was slated to go to a jurried art show next month. //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=36822
Then in the spring it is to show again at the Blair Country Arts Festival but before either show I had a lot of work to do on that image to clean it up somewhat.

After seeing some of the comments left during votings I agreed it needed to be lightened up some so here is the next version of the photo.

I wasn't sure yet about this photo so I showed it to AlanSFreed and he mentioned the white tank next to the front of the engine needing cloned out.

Well I didn't know how to clone in PSP or I didn't think I did. So I went to Ursula for assistance who knew where to find a wonderful tutorial for PSP and she also played some with the photo. In the end this is what it looks like //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=39519
The tank now gone. But in some ways the tank gone bothers me but I think that may be cause I know the surrounding area and know the tank is there so I seem to miss it.

What I really want to know is which version do you like best and why. Also if you like one of the three the best but see something that can be changed to make it better please let me know!

I prefer your final shot, without the tank and the sky retouches are an improvement too. I think it is much cleaner and your subject is more the focus. Hope thats at least a little constructive for you : ).

I like the version without the tank best.
In the version with the tank I seem to wonder too much about what it is, and therefore don't pay enough attention to the rest of the photo.
I also like the redness of the building in the first version, but when the tank is gone, that could be a possible distraction as well.

I did like the number 3 shot best. Number 1's sky seemed a bit raw and the tank (being so white) was a bit distracting, so removing seems like a good thing. I don't mean to cause you a heck of a lot of work, but what about removing the warehouse and fence, too. I like the sky the way it is, and the train looks really nice. O.K?

LOL only you Rob would see what I was seeing. That is what I was considering doing for the spring show. It's to late for the jurried show next month I had to turn in my print Saturday but nothing says I can't improve the entire image again for the other show and make it really fresh.

I've been reading the comments everyone has left behind and I am happy I did go with my instincts on it and use photo 3. As for the flatness of the engine color that is how it appears. The museum people were actually impressed how true to color the engine is. It is old and faded out paint, of course it was painted 51 years ago so the paint being dull and flat is age.

I didn't use desaturation of color I made the entire photo black and white and then I tubed the engine and layered it overtop of the black and white photo so I could maintain the proper color in the last two versions. I did color desaturation in the orginal one I used here for the challenge.

I like what you did with #3 -- good job with the cloning tool! The tank came out of there quite seamlessly.

Thats on the 640 x 480 image the 1280 x 960 is slightly noticable, I use some prismacolors to touch it up after I printed it out.

To me the third photo is a wonderful improvemtent over the others. Could you share the link to the PSP tutorials? I really like what you did with the sky in the last photo. I also think removing the fence and warehouse would strenghten the photo. I think the train all by itself with the sky and sparse landscape would give the image a mysterious, eerie quality.

I'll send you directions on how I did the sky in PSP but here are the links for the clone tutorials in PSP //www1.jasc.com/pub/tutorials/clonebrush.pdf

I like what you've done with this photo, too. Image 3 looks great!
Good luck.
