| The more important question is WHY do you want to upgrade? Camera bodies come and go, good lenses stay for a lot longer. |

the only attractive feature is the antidust system.. Finally!.
how come canon didnt include that in any any of their new bodies...
they kinda jumped the gun on the 400D tho.. looks like they were holding that feature back untill the Sony Alpha came out..
i am sure they are capable of manufacturing all their technology into a super camera that is even cheaper than their lowest price point.. but no they have to milk every penny ... i don blame them.. i would do the same too .. |

| I upgraded from a 350 to a 30d last week. Yes it is worth it. ISO in 1/3rd EV increments, iso3200, bigger buffer, 5fps, big lcd on the back, nice large body, spot metering. There are other bells and whistles but those were the ones I wanted. If you've got the dough, go spend it. |

Quit playing around. Go straight to the 5D.

Honestly, unless you get one of the Canon's with the "factory installed dust", the anti-dust feature should not be a buying decision. I change my lens about five times minimum on a good shooting day- and I got dust once in five months. I used my mouth (gasp) to blow it out and now I'm set.
Unless you plan on dropping your body sans lens under the couch often, you are going to find yourself at a great loss as to why you bought the XTi. I would seriously advocate moving up to a used 20D or a new 30D, whichever you can afford. With a nice body, you'll have nothing to regret, versus the XTi, you'll realize you have the same camera as before but with a very rarely used feature.
The 10mp means jack shit on top of all that. The d70 was one of the best selling cameras ever made; and even now sells better than a secretary gets on her knees for ole Billy Clinton. In fact it could mean more noise than you have now.
Go for the 20D/30D, spend any extra on L glass.

| If I could afford a 30D I would do it in a second, but does the release of the 400XTi indicate that there will be a 30D upgrade coming soon? |

Doubt it. The 30D is geared to a different crowd. Plus it was a recent release.

| Bottom line is there will ALWAYS be a newer, better camera body tomorrow...I'd concentrate on learning to use your current camera to the max and getting a series of good lenses first before looking for a new body... |

The question isn't really "is it worth it", it's whether you feel that you would benefit from having a 30D instead of your 350.
Have you "outgrown" the 350? Is there something in the 30D that would make your life better? |

I only have a Rebel 35mm and want to get a digital body. I like my Rebel, but one of the main selling points of the 30D honestly is the slightly larger size and metal body. That and the slightly beter metering.

im quite happy with the XT .. the only thing that its a small body..
i like to have a good grip on the camera... other than that i don feel like im missin out on something... specially if im gonna get a good heavy L glass.
i already have a hard time balancing it with the sigma 70-300 mounted on..

Maybe you should consider buying a battery grip for your XT instead of upgrading bodies, if size is your only real concern.
And I believe the XTi 400D is slightly smaller than the XT.

FWIW, the Xti is actually a pretty significant change. There is *much* more than just the anti-dust, whuch IMO is of dubious value, one of those things that adds complexity without a really proven benefit. Some of the *real* beneficial updates are:
- RGB histogram; this is huge, just huge.
- 9-point AF; time will tell how much better it is, my guess is noticably.
- 2.5" LCD; definitely a benefit.
- Increased buffer size, both RAW & JPEG; another nice one, also means that a partly-full buffer will clear faster. A faster bus is indicative of snappier overall review performance as well.
- Eliminated the two-step "set button to save settings" control scheme; a nice convenience feature
There's more, but those are the highlights. It's not a camera to be dismissed lightly. If you don't need the additional features of a 30D, the Xti is a great choice. |

I got my battery grip about 3 weeks ago and it really does make a big difference, it might not be a bad idea to try this before upgrading if the size is your only real gripe with the 350D |

I had the same problem when I used the XT so I bought a battery grip and it really helped.

Best advice I heard thus far. I'd spend the money on glass and buy a new body when you need a new body.
And... Not that I think the sensor dust cleaner is going to be all that great on a SLR, but if you don't think you have dust, take a photo of a blue sky at F32. At F11 and below you probably will never see it.

Probably more. I am willing to bet you can find a used grip at //www.fredmiranda.com for around $100.
