IMHO, Photoshop Elements is all you really need and you do not need a laptop.

You could upgrade to PS Elements 4, which will give you a better range of functionality, along with some handy tools like the spot healing brush.
I don't know why you would want a laptop instead of your current desktop. If you have a specific need for a laptop, then get one, otherwise there's no point. |

| Sounds like you really just need an external harddrive if you are simply wanting to store your images. They range in price according to storage, but I recently bought a 300 GB external harddrive for $145. |

If you want to be able to edit photos in the field and on trips, a laptop would let you do that... expect to spend around $1k (USD) for a decent one.
I've never used PS elements, I use PSCS2, so I can't help there. |

I bought a Wacom Graphire Tablet and PS Elements 3.0 came free with it...It is a handy thing to have (the tablet)
Try to buy some hardware that has PS Elements bundled with it. That way you get 2 things for the price of one.
PS Elements 3.0 is PLENTY plus there are plug-ins and such that you can download to make it more like the full version of PS.
Also, try to buy a book that will teach you PS Elements. It helped me a lot!

Picasa is free at the Google Homepage, and is complete with some really effective and easy to use editing tools. I highly recommend it and you can't beat the price!
