also would it be a good idea to buy myself a laptop just for my images
if so what resonable price range make should I be looking at.

When I go into a store it just get confused with all the specials and prices the same with editing I use my computer a lot

My computer is hp pavilion mx70
Windows me millennium edition
my photo programe is Arcsoft Photo studio 2000 I also have Adobe photoshop elements 2.0 which I have not yet mastered

IMHO, Photoshop Elements is all you really need and you do not need a laptop.

You could upgrade to PS Elements 4, which will give you a better range of functionality, along with some handy tools like the spot healing brush.

I don't know why you would want a laptop instead of your current desktop. If you have a specific need for a laptop, then get one, otherwise there's no point.

Sounds like you really just need an external harddrive if you are simply wanting to store your images. They range in price according to storage, but I recently bought a 300 GB external harddrive for $145.

If you want to be able to edit photos in the field and on trips, a laptop would let you do that... expect to spend around $1k (USD) for a decent one.

I've never used PS elements, I use PSCS2, so I can't help there.

I bought a Wacom Graphire Tablet and PS Elements 3.0 came free with it...It is a handy thing to have (the tablet)

Try to buy some hardware that has PS Elements bundled with it. That way you get 2 things for the price of one.

PS Elements 3.0 is PLENTY plus there are plug-ins and such that you can download to make it more like the full version of PS.

Also, try to buy a book that will teach you PS Elements. It helped me a lot!

Picasa is free at the Google Homepage, and is complete with some really effective and easy to use editing tools. I highly recommend it and you can't beat the price!
