OK, you can all thank me for not entering either of these this week. One less piece of crap photo for you to vote on.

Don't forget that 'piece of crap" photos also act as good buffers for my "piece of crap' photo not to get the brown ;)
I'm worried about the "Scene it!" challenge. As more entries drop out (down to 96 now) I am more at risk of that imfamous ribbon :( |

I think I'm going to take a break for a week or 2. I'm sick of putting forth a huge effort trying to find a good shot and having voters destroy it. I have one shot over a 5 for all of my entries so far. And yes, some of them deserve exactly what they got, but my last week's challenge I think was just completely crapped on. I really thought this was going to be at least a 6.
So, until I can figure out what it is that I should be doing, besides having a better camera, I'm sitting out.

Sometimes a break is good. I sat out a couple of weeks recently after a couple of my entries got slammed. I *did* make errors in PP and in other areas but it helped to take a break.
I'm also starting to think the best photos are not the ones taken for the challenge. My pastels entry is over a point higher than my Scene It entry at the moment and I wasn't going to shoot for pastels - crazy!
I didn't vote in that challenge but I think the shot is very good indeed. I think the issue was the challenge - I didn't enter because I didn't understand it and I've learnt that if you don't understnad it then the voters aren't often going to understand your photo.
Oh well. |

Good luck in the pastels...there are some awesome shots in that one.

I actually gave that shot a 6, I thought it was pretty cool. I wouldn't quit just yet. At some point here the challenge ideas are bound to swing away from Suck and back towards concepts that don't leave miles of room for interpretation. |

I'm not quitting...just a break from challenges.

O my gosh, you are still so new here! Don't get down! Look at some of my first entries!
Or better yet look at some ribbon winners first entries!
And I shoot with a crappy camera, too...just get to know what it is best at and shoot with that in mind.
My final bit of advise would be shoot every week AS IF you are entering the challenge...but if it isnt great, dont enter. You still get the practise without the pesky trolls...
Just hate to see ya get discouraged so early in the game! |
