In a Basic Editing challenge, if I use a product in my photo and that product's logo is visible, is this legal?

For example, if I photograph my hands on a laptop's keyboard and you can clearly see the IBM logo (or Toshiba, or Dell), will I be disqualified? The focus or subject of the photo is not the logo or brand itself.

The reason for my concern is because of this rule:

Artwork: Literal photographic representations of existing works of art (including your own) are not considered acceptable submissions, however creative depictions or interpretations are permissible. This includes, but is not limited to paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, computer artwork, computer monitors, and televisions. A literal representation is one which is composed in such a way as to compel the voter to rate only the work of art represented and not the artistic decisions made by the photographer (e.g., lighting, composition, background elements, etc).

Thanks!

There are LOTS of photos with visible logos on this site... NIKON and CANON definitely :-)

And here I have thw Windows logo displayed. :-) Yes, having logos visible is legal.

I don't think there's a rule that specifically bans logos - the specific artwork rule is - I think - designed to stop people just taking a straight photo of another piece of work.

Yes, that would be okay. To get a better idea of what the artwork rule refers to, check out This Tutorial

Thanks all (fotomann_forever, mist, karmat). I can continue with a photo idea without fear of wasting my time. :-)

As long as the logo isn't the subject of the photo it's fine.
