I took some photos yesterday that are out of the norm for me. I am not usually an outside kind of person, but A friend called and said the monarchs in her yard were everywhere. I went over and was so excited to see so many that my hands were shaking. This is not normal for me because I really prefer portraits. But wow, thias was fun. Would love some comments, especially on setting and composition. These were all taken in full sun at 1pm because that is when the butterflies are most active.

| left some too. Question: on one of the shots you put your ap at f/4.6 and shutter speed at only 1/25. Is that typo? That's very slow for that time of day and to catch the stop motion. |

Whoops. the shuuter speed was 1/125.
I'll have to go add that zero. |

They seem to have fairly balanced colors, but may I suggest a bit more aggressive cropping across the board...
it seems like the butterflies are overshadowed by the negative space in quite a few of the pictures.
Close is good. |

Hi, you got to catch some wonderful butterflies.
I generally like your shots. I generally prefer less centered compositions, like you did for the 5315 (that is indeed my favorite for both comp and colors).
I agree with eschelar that your shots could be improved by a more aggressive crop.
Another comment applicable to all the shot regards the focus plane. In quite all the shot the butterflies̢۪ eye is not perfectly focused, while it seems you focused on the wings. Apart for a few very particular shot, I usually prefer the focus plan exactly on the eyes of the insects.

I will try some cropping later today. I think maybe my focus is a problem for me. I have a hard time focusing on something as snall as a insects eyes. But I think this time I was aiming for their wings because of the color I saw there. I will go back this week and try to focus on the eyes. Thanks for that tip as it never occured to me to try that.
