Ok so this is something everyone here on DPC hates, someone wanting comments and also flowers. So I give you my double whammy for the long weekend here in the US. Anyway I went to the Missouri Botanical Gardens to do some flower shooting for an Essay. I wanted to post a few here for some thoughts on my processing. I am just beginning to quit relying on the camera and starting from raw and doing my own. Still learning Photoshop really. So be brutal if you have too, I'm not looking to boost my ego, I'm looking to learn. Anyway I have a hugely busy weekend this weekend but when free time does come this weekend or early next week I will return comments. I'd prefer you post one of your photos here in this thread so I can return your comments. However if you dont I'll pick one from your portfolio.
BTW I know the first may be a bit off, its a soft lens that when I can afford will be replaced. But please critique crop colors and the rest if you wish.

Although perfect colour accuracy may not be necessary for flowers, especially if one is attempting to create mood, rather than a specimen sample. But I do appreciate & always enjoy botanical names, descriptions, & titles, added to flora pictures. |

Hi Matt. I left you some comments. And an observation or two (so don't expect them all to be helpful ;)

Most of the shots are done with my 70-200 the Kenko extension tube, F13-F18 with 580EX fired with Lightsphere attached. Shutter speed was dependant on available lighting, as some was done indoors, some were done outdoors with mixed sun and clouds. Most are 1/250 or higher, ISO never went higher then 400, and never went lower then 100. I can go back and put specifics in each one, but it will be a bit before I can do that. Thanks for the input.

I'm working on this. I'm actually working on a photo essay for the Conservation dept. I've got a book full of notes, and apparently very little writing skills, so I went and bought a field guide today to help me out.

How does that work exactly? Turns the telephoto into a macro? Or just increase the reach of the telephoto? |

The extension tube shortens the minimum focusing distance of the lens. Essentially turning it into a macro lens. Most if not all of this photos are full shots, no crop what so ever. I cant focus further then maybe 3 feet away or so with the 25mm Extension tube in place on a 200mm lens! Works wonders. I have to admit that Scalvert gave the low down on this and I just love it.

Left you a few comments. Nice images. I also made the edits that I suggested in a couple of my comments to give you an example. I hope you don't mind.

You are just awesome Ursula, thats the kind of hard nosed stuff I was looking for. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your time and honesty. It can only make me better if I actually put your suggestions into my work.
